FEI Gauss Limit

Regulatory
The Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) regulates the use of PEMF devices in competition under the 2026 Veterinary Regulations (15th Edition, effective 1 January 2026). Article 1062 classifies low-frequency PEMF machines (battery-powered magnetic rugs, leg wraps, cytowave devices) as Non-Restricted Supportive Therapies, but only if their electromagnetic field output is below 0.1 Tesla (1,000 Gauss). Devices exceeding this limit aren't permitted at FEI-sanctioned events. Static magnetic equipment such as magnetic rugs and wraps is also classified as non-restricted. Non-Restricted Supportive Therapies may be carried out by Persons Responsible (PRs), additional PRs, and Support Personnel on horses they are directly responsible for. By contrast, therapies like shock wave (ESWT), Class IV lasers, and electroacupuncture are classified as Prohibited Supportive Therapies. Any PEMF manufacturer claiming FEI compliance must demonstrate that peak field output remains below the 1,000 Gauss threshold.
