Coil Discovery

Measurement Geometry
A mapping pass that finds where each coil in an accessory sits, how large it is and what outline it has. Manufacturers rarely publish exact coil positions or sizes, and the scan grid is planned around them. With a measured layout, the closest readings fall where each coil actually is, so the field over every coil is captured in detail. The coils are mapped on the Gauss Labs Field Mapper before the scan begins. See Coil Layout and Coil Footprint.
Finding the coils in a mat by reading its fieldA three-coil mat seen from above. A small cross marks roughly where each coil was expected. Dots run outward from each mark along straight lines, each dot a place where the field was read, colored from dark blue for weak to white for strongest. An outline around each group of dots shows the coil that was found.Rough markPlace read, colored by field strengthCoil foundTraced from a real three-coil mat mapping.© 2026 Gauss Labs
The test engineer marks roughly where each coil is. The field is then read outward from each mark, and the pattern of readings shows where each coil sits, how large it is and what outline it has.
